The movie "Slumdog Millionaire" is based on a book penned by Indian diplomat Veekas Swarup. He says a charitable project called the "Hole in the Wall" sparked his rags-to-riches tale set in a Mumbai slum. It was dreamed up by a scientist in Delhi who wondered what would happen if he stuck a computer in a wall in a poor neighborhood and let children have free access to it with no supervision....only a camera that researchers can peer through in another location. What happened was, the kids starting teaching themselves. The computers are loaded with educational software and Word applications, something that can help them later in life.
