San Diego, California Mayor Jerry Sanders unveiled a pilot program to install more than four dozen solar-powered parking meters downtown. The project will evaluate the effectiveness of the technology. If it works out, the solar parking meters might be implemented throughout the city. The meters run on solar-generated electrical power, accept credit cards, prepaid parking "value" cards or coins.
