President Obama gave his first speech to a joint session of Congress last night. He spoke seriously about the nation’s economic crisis but also struck a positive tone. During his hour-long speech Mr. Obama focused in on health care, education and energy policy. He vowed to get credit flowing to Americans and renew faith in banks, but the President says it will take work. The President touted his $787 billion economic stimulus plan, but he also talked about efforts to reign in what he called wasteful government spending. Republican Governor Bobby Jindal gave the GOP response to the President’s speech, saying that the economic stimulus legislation will grow the government rather than the economy, and saddle future generations with debt.
