Two top Ohio Democrats have each announced plans to run for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by George Voinovich. Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner announced her candidacy in a video on the Web. Lieutenant Governor Lee Fisher leaked the news that he would seek the seat at a news conference. Governor Strickland has said that he will back Fisher over Brunner. Fisher and Brunner will compete in the May 2010 primary election, and the winner will face Republican Rob Portman in the November election.
