Featured on Episode 17 of the 2008-2009 season
First Lady Michelle Obama has talked about the importance of keeping her daughters grounded and letting them have an as normal as possible childhood. So needless to say, Mrs. Obama is not very happy about the fact that the giant toy company Ty, which created beanie babies, has two new dolls on the market: “Marvelous Malia" and "Sweet Sasha". Those are the same names of the Obamas’ two daughters. In addition, the two new dolls are the only two African American dolls out of a collection of 30. But a Ty executive said the names simply "worked very well with the dolls we were making." The executive wouldn't say whether or not the Obama daughters are the inspiration for the dolls. In a statement, Mrs. Obama said, “We believe it is inappropriate to use young private citizens for marketing purposes.”
