South Cobb High School Marching Band Plays in Inauguration Parade (Inauguration Lesson Plans)

Posted Thursday, January 15, 2009

Featured on Episode 15 of the 2008-2009 season

It's been a long, tough road for one high school marching band from Georgia. But these band members have overcome obstacles to reach next week's inaugural parade in Washington. Just a few years ago, the South Cobb High School Blue Eagle Marching Band was admittedly not too impressive...only thirty members and leadership was hard to find. Then came Zach Cogdill, a young man with a dream and plenty of drive. Now, the band has more than 70 students and this year they hit some very high notes, winning trophies everywhere they went. Their musical talents have them marching toward a prestigious performance: the historic 56th Presidential Inaugural Parade. And thanks to a fund-raising effort by local media the students can afford the $1,000 per student cost to go to the parade. Lesson plans for this story
