Flying in under the cover of darkness, President George W. Bush, made a surprise visit to Afghanistan Monday morning. It was his second and last trip to this battle zone since the war on terror began in 2001. Mr. Bush's first stop was Bagram Air Base, where he met with U.S. troops, and shared his gratitude with the men and women in uniform. The President then made his way to Kabul, meeting Afghan President Hamid Karzai. The government rolled out the red carpet, as it welcomed the guest with full honors. During a joint news conference, the Afghan President thanked the U.S. leader for his commitment to the country and for liberating Afghanistan from the oppressive Taliban regime. President Bush then reassured the Afghan people that the U.S. will not abandon them this time.
