Lake effect snow squalls battered Ashtabula County over the weekend, reducing visibility and causing accidents on many highways. While most other areas around Ohio got a dusting of snow, the Ashtabula area took a beating because of the lake effect. When cold air from Canada passes over the warm lake, it gathers up moisture and then dumps it in the form of snow along the northeast Ohio shoreline. The rest of Ohio began sharing the snow this week as winds shifted and temperatures dropped.
