More than 140 years ago, slavery was legal in this country, but that ended with the Civil War. Many people alive today are either descendants of slave-owners or their slaves. That includes the presidential candidate John McCain and many people in the southern state of Mississippi. The great-great-grandfather of brother and sister Charles and Mary McCain was a slave owned by the great- grandfather of John McCain. Like many slaves during the time, Mary and Charles' ancestors adopted their owner's name. Jason Carroll reports on the story of the two McCain families and their shared history. McCain only learned during this presidential campaign that one of his southern ancestors was a slave-holder, and he did not offer any comment for Jason’s story.
