Electoral Votes Will Decide Election; McCain Drops Campaign in Michigan

Posted Thursday, October 9, 2008

Featured on Episode 4 of the 2008-2009 season

The Presidential election is really more like fifty small elections. This is because we don’t have a direct democracy – we have a representative democracy. Each state gets a certain number of electoral votes based on the number of people in Congress. Ohio has 20. Whichever candidate wins the popular vote in a state gets all of the electoral votes. Whichever candidate wins at least 270 electoral votes wins the election. John McCain seems to have given up on chasing after the electoral votes in Michigan but he’s still working for votes in Ohio.
