The Kangaroo Kids Jump Rope Team
While most of us associate jumping rope with children on a playground, its origins actually go back to early human history. From the earliest days of rope jumping, the sport has greatly evolved into a highly competitive one which is certainly demonstrated in this week’s NewsDepth feature about the Kangaroo Kids Jump Rope Team. Rope jumping is now a competitive international sport, and this team of more than 100 jumpers from Howard County, Maryland, ranging in age from 6 to 26 is one of the best in the world. It is now very physically and mentally demanding and has come full turn since your rope jumping days and those of your students’ parents and grandparents. Activities and lessons will focus on the history of jumping rope as well as integrate rhyming and chanting. Jump rope rhymes and street chants originated in diverse cultures, making them a valuable reflection of what is unique to one culture and familiar to all of society.
