Hurricane Ike forced more than a million people from their homes along the Gulf Coast. The giant storm is estimated to be one of the most costly hurricanes in U.S. history. Because the storm was so large, many of us experienced its aftermath here in Ohio. We don’t experience hurricanes in Ohio because they form over warm ocean waters, but on Sunday we got a taste of what it’s like when winds clocked at nearly 78 miles per hour knocked down trees and power lines. Ike left behind terrible damage in Texas, and officials there are busy trying to restore power and make sure everyone has food and water.
