Eagle-eyed bird watchers counted 649 eagles in January - a new record for the Ohio Mid-Winter Bald Eagle Survey. Bald eagles were observed in seventy of Ohio's eighty-eight counties. Since the bald eagle mostly eats fish, the highest concentration of the raptors was found in Sandusky, Ottawa and Erie Counties, along the rivers, as well as the Lake Erie shoreline. Forty-five eagles were counted in Trumbull County, home of Mosquito Lake.
