Being an astronaut can be an amazing job, but also dangerous. Blasting off and re-entering the earth’s atmosphere never easy and an emergency can arise. John Zarella shows us a special team whose duty it is to rescue astronauts. PJ's or Pararescue Jumpers are part of the 308th Rescue Squadron. Part active duty, part Reserve, Patrick Air Force Base is their home, not far from where shuttles leave the earth. Since the Challenger disaster, their mission is as guardians of the astronauts. If a shuttle gets in trouble in the first few minutes after liftoff, and the astronauts are forced to bail out, this elite team would find them in the ocean, and bring them back.
