Less than one year away from the Olympic Games in Beijing, China, pollution and how it will affect the athletes is still a major concern. Hugh Riminton takes us to a U.N. sponsored conference on sport and the environment in Beijing which opened with a grim warning on climate change. Global warming could threaten the very existence of winter sports in some parts of the world. Jacques Rogge, International Olympic Committee President also warned that China’s terrible pollution and poor air quality could affect the ability of athletes to perform next summer.
