Many people feel they shouldn’t have to be exposed to second-hand smoke, and believe that banning smoking in public places would guarantee that. However, two issues on the Ohio ballot are causing confusion. Issue 4, also called “Smoke Less Ohio,” would guarantee smoking rights in bars, bingo halls, and bowling alleys. Restaurants could allow smoking in separate areas. This issue would overturn any smoking bans already in place in 21 Ohio cities. (http://www.smokelessohio.com/) The R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company has invested more than $5 million in this issue. Issue 5, called “Smoke Free Ohio,” would prohibit smoking in bars, restaurants and most other public spaces. Issue 5 has the backing of the American Cancer Society and the American Lung Association.
