On the other side of the country, residents of Buffalo, New York experienced an early snowstorm that dumped more than a foot of snow in the area. A state of emergency was declared there, as branches and trees fell under the weight of the snow, blocking roads. Weather record keepers called it the snowiest October day in the history of Buffalo.
