Weekend Storm Shuts Down Some Rapid Transit Routes

The Green Line is closed today, and the Blue line isn't running between Tower City and Shaker Square. RTA spokeswoman Mary Shaffer says the storm took out a retaining wall at a construction site at the Buckeye Road rapid station.

“And when it collapsed, there was rubble from the bridge and from the retaining wall on our tracks -- and also water," Shaffer said. "Those two things are not conducive to running a safe system. So we had to shut down the trains, make sure we could clear off the rubble, clear off the water, let the water drain.”

RTA is shuttling commuters between those stations on buses for the time being. Shaffer says it’ll mean delayed service, but that RTA will have trains running by tomorrow.
