Convicted high school gunman T.J. Lane is appealing his life sentence in last year's shooting deaths of three students at Chardon High School.
According to court documents posted online by the News-Herald in Willoughby, Lane's attorney filed the appeal April 18. The Associated Press reports Lane's case heads to the 11th Ohio District Court of Appeals in Warren.
His lawyers during pretrial and sentencing will not represent him in his appeal. The court appointed him a new attorney last month.
Lane opened fire in the cafeteria of Chardon High School in February 2012, killing three students and wounding three others. He pleaded guilty one year later and was sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole.
