States Settle With Drug Company Over Ads

Ohio will share in a $71 million settlement against a pharmaceutical company for the way it promoted two of its drugs. Statehouse correspondent Karen Kasler has details.

Attorney General Mike DeWine joined with AGs from every other state but Mississippi and South Carolina in suing the drug maker Amgen for promotion of two drugs - Aranesp, which is used to treat anemia, and Enbrel.

The AGs said Amgen promoted the drugs for uses not okayed by the FDA - Enbrel for mild plaque psoriasis, when it's approved only for moderate to severe cases, and Aranesp for anemia caused by cancer and for more frequent doses than approved by regulators.

Ohio will get more than $1.8 million, and there's no word how that money will be spent.
