Shaw Band Prepares For China March

Featured Audio

Shaw High's Mighty Cardinal Marching Band has won numerous awards for its percussive, "show band" style on the football field. Musical Director DonShon Wilson is himself a former drummer with the Shaw Band. It was under his guidance that the group won the chance to be one of only five U.S. marching bands that will perform with some international peers in pre-Olympics festivities in Beijing, this month. For the past few weeks they've been getting tips on Chinese culture and sampling food they'll likely encounter. Wilson says, they're also learning about airplane etiquette

WILSON: Only eight of our students ever had the opportunity to fly before. We're going to go through a tour of the facility. Kids are going to get the opportunity to go through security screening. I think there's a possibility we're going to eat lunch on the plane.

The band departs on the19th, staying through the end of June.
