Secretary of State Jon Husted says it’s not unusual for criminals to use government forms to find out information they can use to hunt down and possibly harm victims in cases of domestic violence or human trafficking.
So he’s supporting a bill that would allow those victims to keep personal information private.
He says victims shouldn’t have to sacrifice their personal safety to exercise their personal freedoms.
“In this case, what I’m most concerned about as Secretary of State, is them having to sacrifice their personal safety for their right to vote.”
The bipartisan bill would allow victims to be part of an address confidentiality program that would shield their personal information on a variety of public documents.
