Playhouse Square Comeback Celebrated with Street Party

Preservation activist Raymond Shepardson and a crew of young people helped save four abandoned theaters in Cleveland's Playhouse Square in the early 1970s. That initial spark led to the creation of a thriving downtown district that now features ten stages and draws a million people to the city every year. The Playhouse Square comeback was celebrated with a street party that included the ceremonial lighting of a giant outdoor chandelier.
