The site will add to another residential development on Detroit Avenue, namely Mariner's Watch apartments. With more than 60 units, that development is scheduled to open later this fall.

The new apartment development – which has yet to be named -- will break ground in spring 2015, after the existing Club Cleveland bathhouse is demolished. In its place, the Vintage Development Group will build a 60-75 unit apartment building, with 1-2 bedrooms each.

Tom McNair is Acting Director of Ohio City Incorporated, a non-profit agency that secured the rights to the property. McNair says they’re excited for the project.

“We actually did a study about 18 months or so ago, that showed that there was demand for upwards of 1500 units for housing in the neighborhood right now," says McNair. "And we’ve seen that play out, most of the multifamily apartments that are in the neighborhood are all full, many of them have waiting lists, similar to what you see downtown.”

McNair adds more than 70 businesses have opened across Ohio City in the last four years. He says it’s hoped that attracting families and other people with the new apartment development will create a community that’ll sustain many of the local businesses.
