Federal regulators said Monday that nearly five times as many people enrolled in the health care exchanges in December compared with the two previous months.
That includes nearly 40,000 Ohioans as of Dec. 28.
The latest numbers reveal that while sign up was slow in October and November with only about 5,600 residents of the Buckeye state enrolling in a health insurance plan. The pace picked up drastically in December - when federal officials said glitches on the Web site healthcare.gov were fixed.
A slight majority of those signing up in Ohio were female. And just more than 60 percent were between the ages of 45 and 64, according to the federal report.
And one final statistic: A full 81 percent of those signing up in Ohio received financial assistance.
