A new study shows thousands of jobs in the insurance industry will be available during the next few years.
Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor says the study, based on Bureau of Labor Statistics, shows the future of the insurance industry in Ohio is bright.
"We have updated projections which now show Ohio’s insurance industry needs to fill 26,000 jobs by 2020," Taylor said. "That is 26,000 jobs right here in Ohio. That’s 26,000 Ohio families that can benefit from a good-paying, stable job in the insurance industry."
Taylor notes the average salary for a job in the insurance industry is $64,000.
Ohio is already home to some of the largest insurance companies, including Nationwide and Progressive Insurance -- two of the largest companies in the country. The Ohio insurance industry ranks seventh in the nation with more than 95,000 employees and an annual contribution of $17.4 billion to the state’s gross domestic product.
