Local leaders throughout Ohio were in Columbus Tuesday to ask state leaders to restore money to the local government funds.
P G Sittenfeld, a Cincinnati City Council member, says state cutbacks to the local government funds have caused his city to make tough choices.
"We have not had a police recruit class for the last six years," Sittenfeld said. "I mean, this is called our local government fund. I think it should be called the police and fire fund, because that’s exactly where these dollars are going -- toward providing the most basic of basic services. So we're making do in Cincinnati but again, the state's an obstacle, not a partner."
Some lawmakers are pushing a couple of plans that would give local governments more money. But Sittenfeld and others want lawmakers to restore the local government fund to where it was back in 2010.
