Lawsuit Claims Security Costs Too High For White Nationalist Appearance In Cincinnati

An associate of white nationalist Richard Spencer is suing the University of Cincinnati. From member station WVXU, Tana Weingartner reports.

Spencer's attorney is asking for $2 million and a jury trial alleging UC is charging too much for Spencer's planned visit in March.

According to the federal court filing, UC wants more than $10,000 for security fees and costs.

The lawsuit says that infringes on Spencer's free speech rights and calls the criteria used to set the price unconstitutional.

UC is  standing by the fee calling it "a mere fraction" of what the university expects to spend.

Richard Spencer is a white supremacist who threatened to sue UC and Ohio State if he wasn't allowed to speak on campus.

UC relented and offered a date that falls in the middle of Spring Break.

There is a lawsuit pending against OSU.
