January Was a Bad Month for Ohio’s Four Casinos

Last month was a bad one – again – for Ohio’s four casinos. Ohio Public Radio’s Karen Kasler reports revenue fell at three of the four casinos for the second month in a row.

The gambling facilities in Cleveland, Columbus and Toledo all reported drops in revenue from December to January.

The Casino Control Commission’s report noted that bad weather forced the Horseshoe Cleveland casino to close for more than a day, and Hollywood Toledo to shut down for two days.

But the numbers were historically bad for all four casinos. January’s take was the second worst month on record for Horseshoe Cincinnati – only December 2013 was worse. And the revenue recorded at Horseshoe Cleveland was the lowest recorded since the partial month it opened in May 2012. And it was the worst month ever for Hollywood Columbus and Hollywood Toledo.

Weather, though, was a factor cited in lower gambling revenue numbers in some states around Ohio, all of which allow casino gambling.
