Ideas: Cuyahoga County Grapples With Loss Of Lead Funding

Lead poisoning is an old problem afflicting Rust Belt cities. But here in Northeast Ohio, there's a new and troublesome twist: Federal money to remove lead risks from houses runs out on May 31.

For decades, Cuyahoga County has successfully been awarded federal grants to remediate old and dilapidated homes. But in the last round, Cuyahoga was not awarded a grant for the first time in the federal program's history. The city of Cleveland's last grant was won in 2008.

ideastream's Sarah Jane Tribble talks with ideas host Rick Jackson on how this funding crunch came to be, and how it puts thousands of children at risk.
