Governor Hints Budget May Include More Tax Breaks

Governor Kasich told community action agencies that he wants to increase the income limits for subsidized child care and decrease the tax burden for low income Ohioans by doubling the exemption now given. But he says also wants to help small businesses.

Kasich: "We are proposing eliminating all income taxes for small business up to $2 million dollars in revenue."

Kasich isn't saying how he'll pay for those tax breaks and expanded services in his budget but there is one option he's talked about recently. He has repeatedly said he wants to raise severance taxes on gas and oil - a provision lawmakers removed from his budget two years ago.
