Democratic Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald has been talking about running for governor but next Wednesday, he will make it official.

FitzGerald plans to hold three news events that day to announce his run. The first will be around noon time in Cleveland. The second will be in Columbus mid afternoon. He will have his last news conference of the day in Cincinnati that evening.

FitzGerald is one of two Democrats who are thought to be contenders to run against Republican Governor John Kasich. Former Ohio Attorney General and current Director of the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Richard Cordray is also thought to be a possible candidate.

A new Quinnipiac University indicates either of those men might have a fight ahead if they take on Kasich.

The governor leads FitzGerald in that poll by 9 points and leads Cordray by 7 points.
