After three days of interviews, a search committee for the next Cleveland Schools CEO has narrowed down the list from 126 applicants to three finalists. ideastream’s Michelle Kanu reports.

The three top candidates to become the next Cleveland Schools CEO all have experience running urban districts.  Bernard Taylor is the current superintendent in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Chris Scott manages the schools in Lowell Massachusetts, and Cheryl Atkinson is schools chief in Lorain.

The two applicants from within the district, Chief of Staff Chrsitine Fowler Mack and Chief Academic Officer Eric Gordon, did not make the cut.

Roseann Canfora, a spokesperson for the district, says the search committee is on track to get a new CEO in place by June 1st.

Canfora: “Those finalists have been recommended to the board of education for their consideration and the board will be interviewing them in person and going on site visits with the intent to meet their deadline of June 1st to select the new CEO.”

Those second round interviews take place at the beginning of May and Mayor Frank Jackson will give his final approval.
