Republican Cuyahoga Councilman Jack Schron Launches Bid for County Executive

Jack Schron is the CEO of Jergens, a manufacturer in Collinwood. He won election to council in 2010, and represents southern and eastern suburbs like Chagrin Falls and Mayfield Heights.

He says the project of reforming Cuyahoga County government isn't over yet. He promised to make departments cooperate better, and to cut overhead costs in delivering county services.

"Can we have a reduction of the administrative costs, and take those same dollars and apply them to the beneficiaries, to the homeless person, the mother that needs that child support," he said.

He highlighted his years of service in the army, and said he'll draw on his business experience in pursuing economic development projects.

Schron spoke in Cleveland's new convention center, and before his supporters left he took a moment to plug the county-led project -- and the county-owned hotel that's going up next door.

"It's a magnificent example of what we can do together as a county when you see these pieces and parts put together with the hotel and all that's going to take place," he said.

Schron touted endorsements from former Sen. George Voinovich and a number of republican elected officials. One other person has announced they'll run on the Republican side: a 19-year old from Berea named Tanner Fischbach.

In the Democratic corner, State. Rep. Armond Budish, State Sen. Shirley Smith and former county sheriff Bob Reid will vie for their party's nomination in the primary this May.
