Officials Considering Options For Problematic Buckeye Lake Dam

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Emergency Management Agency met with other state and local officials to hash out a plan to help fix the Buckeye Lake Dam and determine protocols in case a breach happens.

The corps' report says the man-made, earthen dam has a high probability of catastrophic failure. ODNR Director Jim Zehringer says the state is making public safety its number one priority.

"One life lost is unacceptable. I can't stress it enough-if it can be prevented it will be prevented," said Zehringer.

The groups are still working on specific ways to mitigate any potential problems but any long-term plan could come with a high price tag.
