Starting next year—33-year old Cliff Rosenberger of Clarksville in southwest Ohio will be the state’s first Asian American Speaker of the House. Rosenberger says it’s vital for the GOP members of the House to work together.

Rosenberger: “We don’t want to just think every two years - we want to think more long term so how do we move forward in the right plan together as a caucus to do that and that’s what we’re going to work together as a caucus on.”

Jim Butler of Dayton was a Tea Party challenger to Rosenberger, but there’s no word on how many votes he received because the caucus held a secret ballot.

Longtime lawmaker Ron Amstutz of Wooster, who had wanted to be Speaker, made a deal with Rosenberger months ago that puts him in the Speaker Pro Tempore position.

House Democrats plan on holding their leadership vote next week.
