Governor Kasich has signed the bill into law that will allow Ohio’s schools to use teachers provided through the “Teach for America” program. Previously, those teachers would not be allowed to teach under Ohio’s teacher certification guidelines. Kasich says teachers who are part of the Teach for America program will bring a passion to the classrooms where they teach.
“The calvary is coming,” the Governor said,
“They are going to ride on white horses with white hats into our schools and be able to inject a tremendous amount of enthusiasm, capability and real world understanding”
Teach for America students are generally fresh out of college. They normally work at inner city or rural schools for two years. After that, some decide to further their teacher training but many decide to move into different fields.
