Indians Fire Manager Eric Wedge

Eric Wedge was fairly upbeat in his news conference - a team man even at the very end... praising the Indians owner, and saluting his players for their efforts if not for their on-field results, which totalled just one playoff appearance during his seven seasons in the dugout.

Wedge will continue to manage the team in the seasons' final six games, but said taking off his Cleveland uniform for the last time this coming Sunday - will be hard.

ERIC WEDGE: "I've got a great deal of respect for the city of Cleveland and Tribe fans all over the place, and in regard to the Indians and this organization and first and foremost the players, it'll be a tough day."

Indians owner Paul Dolan and General Manager Mark Shapiro spoke of the emotional difficulties of releasing Wedge, but in the end says Dolan:

PAUL DOLAN: "You make the decisions at the time you feel like are best for the franchise."

Currently with the second fewest wins in the American League, Wedge says the experience gained by young players this year will likely help the team in 2010.

Because of contract terms, Wedge and some of his coaches will still be paid through next season.
