GOP Lawmaker Pushes Bill Aimed at Toxic Algae

While speaking at a post-election conference, Republican State Rep. Dave Hall of Millersburg said that he doesn’t want to waste any time. The agriculture and natural resources committee he chairs will hold hearings next week on a bill that tackles many different issues -- including toxic algae problems.

In August, nearly half a million people in the Toledo area couldn’t drink their water because of the discovery of harmful algae. Hall says he’s sifting through dozens of proposed amendments, but said House Bill 490 is just a first step.

“You will see a series of bills after 490 in the next General Assembly that will truly put a stamp on the water quality issue," Hall said.

Hall hopes the bill can pass out of the House by Thanksgiving.
