First Energy: Heavy, Wet Snow Can Be Rough on Power Lines

First Energy spokeswoman Patti Michel says that's because this type of snowfall can be especially tough on power lines.

MICHEL: "Heavy, wet snow certainly would cause branches to maybe fall on lines, or weigh down the wires where they would disengage and be downed. We also want to look for any heavy winds or ice that would occur."

Michel says First Energy has already talked with groups in New York and the Southwest that could send extra work crews to Ohio if needed -- but local crews are ready to fix problems as they arise. She says residents should be ready with flashlights, food and extra blankets -- just in case.
