The annual big fundraising dinners for Ohio’s two major political parties are proving the state has a lot of influence, even in an off-year election. Statehouse correspondent Karen Kasler reports.

Former President Bill Clinton will headline the annual state dinner for the Ohio Democratic Party on Friday, June 13.

Clinton won Ohio twice, which is noteworthy in that Hillary Clinton is considering another presidential run.

This is a big get for Democrats, since their candidate for governor, Ed FitzGerald, far behind Republican incumbent John Kasich in fundraising.

Meanwhile, Republicans announced late Friday that former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour will join Kasich to headline that event on Saturday, May 10.

It’s a big double bill for Republicans, with Kasich being talked about as a presidential contender, and Barbour still a major draw for many Republican insiders.

Tickets for the GOP dinner start at $100. The Democratic Party’s website says all tickets to its dinner are sold out.
