Demolition is wrapping up on the Cleveland house where Ariel Castro held three women captive for roughly a decade.

The house was signed over to the Cuyahoga Land Bank, as part of a plea deal that spared Castro a possible death sentence.

The former bus driver was sentenced August 1st to life without parole, plus 1,000 years for charges stemming from his imprisonment of Amanda Berry, Michelle Knight, and Gina DeJesus.

All three women -- plus a daughter Castro fathered with Berry -- escaped May 6th, when Berry broke part of a door and yelled for help, alerting neighbors.

Knight showed up early before the excavator fired up and began knocking down Castro's makeshift dungeon. The Associated Press says Knight made a brief statement and released some yellow balloons which drifted above the Seymour Avenue neighborhood.

A crowd of several dozen onlookers cheered and clapped throughout the demolition began. Media crews lined the street, filming the scene for local and national markets.

Blaise Thomas, Cuyahoga County Assistant Prosecutor, says Castro broke down when he signed over the house deed and mentioned his "many happy memories" there with the women.
