Authorities say an inmate who escaped from the Mansfield Correctional Institution in north-central Ohio remains on the loose.
James David Myers was determined to be missing during a head count on Wednesday night, his 47th birthday.
MCI Warden Terry Tibbals says he can’t want to release too many details about Myers’ escape, but he’s warning the public to be on the look out.
Tibbals: “what we would request for folks to keep themselves safe is if approached, do not engage him, leave the area, and immediately contact your local law enforcement agency. He is considered dangerous, however we do not have any information to indicate that he has any weapons in his possession.”
Myers was serving time for stalking an Akron woman and raping her at gunpoint in July 2010. Police say he followed her home from a bar, broke into her house and attacked her. He continued to stalk her for days afterward, and was finally picked up for drunk driving near her house.
The Ohio State Highway control is conducting an investigation into the situation.
