A well-known food manufacturing giant is investing 53 million dollars in a new research center in Northeast Ohio.

On Thursday, Nestle broke ground on a Product Technology Center in Solon.

Sean Westcott, director of the new center, says the facility will focus on using science and technology to help make their frozen foods healthier and taste better.  He says Nestle chose Solon because several of the frozen food companies they own are already planted here.

Westcott: “This is the headquarters of Lean Cuisine, the headquarters of Stouffers, the headquarters of Hot Pockets.  And bringing together the core of the business with the factory here in Solon and putting the PTC beside it, it really creates a dynamic where we can work side by side with our partners in the business.”

Westcott says the new center solidifies Nestle’s commitment to Ohio and will add an extra 120 people to the 2700 who already work for subsidiaries of the company around the state.

Construction begins this summer and is slated to wrap up in late 2014.
