Democrats in the Ohio Senate say bills involving election reform, job creation, education, and the environment will be their top priorities this year. Ohio Public Radio’s Jo Ingles has details.
Senate democrats put job creation at the top of the list of legislation they’ll be introducing in coming weeks. They plan to bring up bills to protect the environment from fracking. State Sen. Nina Turner wants to make sure all Ohioans have access to the polls, even on Sundays before Election Day.
TURNER: “I mean right after the election, some of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle were talking about trying to take away Sunday voting. We know exactly what they want to do when they talk about trying to take away Sunday voting.”
Democratic lawmakers also say they want to take steps to reduce gun violence, reform education funding so it isn’t as reliant on local property taxes, and offer college credits to veterans for skills they’ve acquired through military service.
