Many people and families struggle with mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Untreated, people with mental illness can lose touch with reality, and this can lead to run-ins with the law. Ideastream's Anne Glausser spoke with one man working to reform this system. Dr. Mark Munetz is the Chair of Psychiatry at Northeast Ohio Medical University and formerly led the Summit County Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health Services Board. He won a national advocacy award recently for his work to keep Ohioans with mental illness out of jail and in treatment.
