Hockey is on its way back in Cleveland, at least for a while. ideastream's Bill Rice headed down to the Q yesterday for the dramatic unveiling.

Well, it wasn’t a giant walleye, if that’s what you were thinking. It’s what Cavs owner Dan Gilbert settled on for the new name for his new hockey club. They’re the Lake Erie Monsters, and they’re the latest addition to a checkered long history of minor league hockey in Cleveland - starting, as Gilbert states, with the Indians in 1929.

Dan Gilbert: The Falcons from ‘34 to ‘36, the Barons ‘37 to ‘72, the Crusaders ‘72 to ‘76 , the Barons again ‘76 to ‘78, the Lumberjacks ‘92 to 2001, then the Barons again, 2002 to 2006.

The team is affiliated with the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche. Team officials say the name and logo played well with focus groups. Gilbert predicts the new team will be a hit with fans as well.
