Redistricting Foes Ready Petition Campaign

Opponents of Ohio's redistricting process are trying to put a plan before voters that would change how boundary lines are drawn for congressional and legislative districts. This would require changing the state constitution.

Ann Henkener of the Ohio League of Women Voters says the first step has been taken now that the Ohio Attorney General has given approval to the initial petition to start that process.

“We’re really excited about getting over that hurdle in the process.  And we submitted the sufficient number of signatures.  So the time is growing short but there’s a lot of enthusiasm about this so we are definitely hoping for the `12 ballot.”

The Ohio League of Women Voters, The Ohio Council of Churches, Citizen Action, ProgressOhio and several other groups have volunteered to help to get the roughly 390,000 signatures needed to put the proposed constitutional amendment on the ballot in November.
