Diabetes Research Funding Doesn’t Match Scale of the Problem

All this week ideastream® is highlighting the issue of diabetes. The Ohio Family Survey by Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital found in Cuyahoga County 1/3 of adults and 1/5 of adolescents are obese and obesity is a strong predictor of who will develop diabetes. But doctors say the funding to support diabetes research lags far behind the scale of the problem. Dr. Rose Gubitosi-Klug is an assistant professor at Case Western Reserve University and has a practice at Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital. ideastream®'s Eric Wellman asked her whether she's seeing children being diagnosed with diabetes younger and younger.
