Dozens of Tax Issues and Local Candidates on Tuesday's Primary Ballots

There are more than 50 issues on ballots in Cuyahoga and the surrounding counties. Most are levies.

About half would fund local services -- like the firefighters in Macedonia, mental health services in Lorain and the Westlake library. Most of the other levies fund schools.

KUBILUS: "As superintendent, I have been to over 80 community meetings regarding school levies."

Daryl Kubilus is the superintendent of the Cloverleaf school district in Medina County.

Cloverleaf has had a couple levies on the ballot in recent years that have failed. This time, Kubilus campaigning to pass a 7.9 mill levy.

KUBILUS: "We’ve used phone banking, live voice to voice people talking to each other, we’ve had a literature campaign and we’re working on our door-to-door initiative.”

The district is in fiscal emergency, and had to take out a loan from the state to fund the schools.

Now, Kubilus got to pay that money back. He says he’s looking at a $3 million deficit if the levy fails.

Cloverleaf is one of more than two dozen school districts seeking levies in the area. That's in addition to numerous candidates for judge and local city and village councils.
